A soft bricked phone is when your phone bootloops. When you can get into CWR/CWM. When you can use jitag to get into download mode. A softbricked phone is when your are stuck at the bootloop and you can't get out of the bootloop.

1. Plug in your phone to your computer via microUSB

2. We will now enter "Download Mode". Hold down the volume up, volume down, and power button all at the same time. When you feel vibration let go of the power button, but keep holding on to the volume up and down button.

Ever wondered just how many apps have access to your social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter? Well, a website calledmypermissions.org will highlight what apps have access to Facebook and others too as well as highlighting what permissions they have.

mypermissions.org is a free app permission management tool which can be used from their website or from a mobile app. It automatically scans your app permissions on 12 websites (see below) as well as cleaning your app permissions in one click. You also receive alerts when apps gain access to your private information. mypermissions DOES NOT require (nor does it capture/store) your login credentials, although it does request a browser session to connect to the relevant website when using the mobile app.

The 12 websites that mypermissions reviews for you are: Facebook; Twitter; Google+; Yahoo!; LinkedIn; Dropbox; Instagram; Foursquare; Microsoft Live; Aol.; Flickr and Familio (only on iOS and Amazon mobile apps). Each website will have a webpage that manages their own apps and that of third-party apps (this page is sometimes referred to as ‘Authorized Apps) access to your account profile data. Most of these pages are difficult to find, so this app makes reviewing permissions very simple.

You can use mypermissions in the following ways:

• Chrome Extension – this extension will have access to your data on all the websites and access your tabs and browsing activities. As far as we can tell it only does this for the websites listed on the website. You can disable or delete this extension at any time by clicking the Menu icon > Tools > Extensions

For the benefit of my readers, I start with the Chrome extension. So how does this permissions management website work? If you are logged into say Facebook it will present you with apps that have access to Post in your name; Access your info; Know your location; Access your inbox or contacts; Access your info 24/7 and Access your media & files. This data is presented within the website. When you click the website logo/icon for another website (see below), then you will be taken to that website to login and that website will take you to a page to present you with the apps that have access to your data. This is very useful as it is difficult to find this data from Google Search.

Note: I had Facebook, Twitter and Google+ open (and logged in) on my Chrome tabs, however the mypermissions website only picked up the Facebook data. As it was I surprised to see I had 15 apps accessing more than 60 permissions on my Facebook profile!

I’ve also tested the Android and iOS app. What I did notice was that the Android app only presents you with 9 websites to check rather than the 11 on the website. Microsoft Live and Aol are missing. The iOS app presents you with all the 12 websites mentioned above. I didn’t notice any other differences to the Chrome extension. If you click on any icon i.e. Facebook you will of course be taken to a browser login rather than the app (if you are logged in) and the mypermissions app will not attempt to open the app, which reassured me. After all I want the control!

Android firewall apps will block access to mobile networks and Wi-Fi by IP address only (Linux iptables).  I’ve been unable to find an Android firewall app on the Play Store or third-party market that is able to block a bluetooth or GPS connections as well. A downside right now is that Android firewall apps will not allow you to set restrictions on multiple Wi-Fi access points, but they do provide you with additional security and privacy to ensure against data leakage.

Android firewall apps CANNOT block certain apps by specific permissions. You will need an app likePDroid Manager, which allows you to manage privacy settings to do this.

Which Android firewall apps? I decided to test a root and non-root firewall. Visit the Play Store to download and test DroidWall and Mobiwol. DroidWall requires root access while Mobiwol doesn’t. These apps were tested on a Samsung Galaxy S3 running Jelly Bean 4.1.2 with root access and one without. If you use SuperSU, you will need to grant access to DroidWall.

Before you download, install and test these firewalls, it’s important not to run two firewalls at the same time. Always uninstall one before installing the other.

DroidWall – Android Firewall

Now called Android Firewall (has a new developer working on it. You can still pick it up from the Play Store as ‘DroidWall’). This app requires root access (escalated privilege). Download DroidWall – Android Firewall

This firewall as most firewalls use Linux iptables to control app access to mobile network (2G/3G/4G/LTE) and Wi-Fi networks. It is also supported on Android ICS 4.0/Jelly Bean 4.1.x upwards. It also blocks data via the Internet and Wi-Fi by IP address as well as offering the ability to block individual apps. One criticism of firewall apps is that if you block data traffic, the Internet and Wi-Fi symbols still show up as active (unblocked), even though they are clearly not. A minor gripe. Nevertheless it’s a powerful tool, which allows you to create custom firewall scripts (rules).

Mobiwol: NoRoot Firewall

The best aspect of Mobiwol is that it doesn’t require root access. Users can also control individual apps when they are active/not active as well. This allows you to have control of what apps should be kept enabled. Mobiwol uses the VPN Android packaging module to gain access to your apps’s network activities. Download Mobiwol: NoRoot Firewall

Mobiwol has a distinct advantage over Android Firewall – it doesn’t require root and can also block ads. I’ve tested the ad blocking and it does work, which is surprising considering Google recently removed ad blocker apps from Google Play Store.

NOTE: There is a known issue whereby if you are using Android 4.0.4 due to a missing file in the Android OS, prevents the VPN package from successfully opening. It is suggested that users update to Android 4.1, which will resolve this issue.

Disable freeze remove Android bloatware

Carriers (mobile networks) and manufacturers (and some third-party developers) often include pre-installed apps, but in most instances these apps offer little or no benefit to you or your Android device. In fact in most instances they end up being useless. These pre-installed apps generally clutter your system and in some instances degrade the performance of your mobile device i.e. draining your battery for example.

These pre-installed apps are referred to as ‘bloatware’. Bloatware apps are usually installed to encourage you to use a manufacturers app, but most non-tech users don’t even use these apps, let alone know they are there. If they did, they would realise they were useless in the most part. Note:Almost all stock configurations of Android come loaded with bloatware, but it you have a Nexus, you are lucky because these devices do not.

Freezing and or removing Android bloatware

So how do you go about disabling/freezing the pre-installed bloatware? In many instances users will simple “freeze” the app rather than risk uninstalling, which might cause a system issue i.e. bricking or some other type of instability. When you uninstall an app , the app is completely removed from for device, but the pre-installed apps are not (in most instances) available on the Play Store, if you decided you needed them again.

Therefore, freezing an app is seen as a safer alternative. Freezing an app will disable that app and it will not appear to be functioning nor will it take up any background resource (maybe Android should take a leaf out of BlackBerry’s hat, where BB10 only allows app in the background if that app uses Active Frames). Freezing an app on Android for example is an instant process, but you do have the option to unfreeze that app if you encounter instability issues. However, read on…..

Note: If you decide to uninstall an app, it’s important that you first freeze an app to ensure you don’t drink your device.

However, contrary to what I’ve read on forums, its difficult to impossible to disable or freeze bloatware on Android 4.0 upwards (from Ice Cream Sandwich) without root access. Some comments suggest you can disable apps in ICS, but I can tell you if you are running 4.0 upwards on say a Samsung Galaxy S3, you will be unable to disable most apps from Settings > Applications Manager. However there is a simple work around for removing bloatware without root access! I use a recovery-flashable ZIP called Bloatkill than can remove the APK from the Android system/app partition without root access.

If you have a stock ROM, this means the original operating system (and haven’t installed a modified version), then Bloatkill will work for you without any modifications. Before moving any apps, make sure you do understand what you are removing, as I cannot be held responsible for any problems you might encounter!

Firstly, you will need your PC

• Download Bloatkill.zip file – save to your PC desktop
• Open the file with an archive tool i.e. WinRAR
• Go to META-INF\com\google\android\ and extract the file “updater-script” to your PC desktop
• Open “updater-script” with your PC text editor (Notepad) ready for editing
• You will now see a list of all the APKs that will be removed upon running the script. You can modify this list and save the file again using Notepad. Note the bold parts as these are important stock system files
• Move the “updater -script” back into the Bloatkill.zip archive. This will replace the original copy with your copy

• Connect your Android device to your PC using a USB cable
• Copy the Bloatkill.zip file from your desktop onto your Android SD card* (not in any folder) and reboot in recovery mode. Shut down and boot the device while holding the volume up, home button and power button at the same time to enter recovery mode
• Select “apply ZIP from SD card” and select Bloatkill.zip and select “Yes”. The script will execute. Once this is done you will need to reboot
• The apps you listed in “updater-script” will now have been removed

*Use My Files > All files > extSdCard to locate/verify the zip file location and file integrity (you can also use any 3rd-party file manager from the Play Store).

Android allows you to reboot the device in recovery or fastboot modes.

HOW TO install Android XPrivacy using Xposed installer

Managing application privileges (permissions) on Android isn’t that user friendly – and that includes KitKat 4.4. If you want a powerful tool to manage your app privileges (permissions) then XPrivacy might just be that app. XPrivacy allows you to manage and control app permissions via the installer for the Xposed Framework.
                   

   
The Xposed Framework* is a customisation tool which allows modders to make changes (install modules such as XPrivacy) to the Android system without making changes to the behaviour of apps and/or the source code. We use this framework to look for module exploits.

In most instances you would need to download the Xposed Framework from XDA Developers forum, but for the benefit of this post, you can do this with the help of the XPrivacy Installer app. Then you would have to find a module to install. Remember for you to be able to install the XPrivacy module your device will need to be rooted.

The XPrivacy module allows you to have super user power in that you can stop an application like Twitter and Facebook from having access to specific permissions. Beware though, if you start changing privileges (permissions) ad hoc you might end up crashing the app or the device. So beware!

*Only works with SU/root access on Android 4.0.3 or later.

The following was tested on a Galaxy Nexus running Android Jelly Bean 4.3 (Build JWR66Y):

First up you will need to download the XPrivacy Installer https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=biz.bokhorst.xprivacy.installer
Open > XPrivacy Installer and Tap > Check for root and check both “I have made a full backup” and “I have enabled Unknown Sources”

Tap > Download/install Xposed (this is the Xposed Framework) – this will open your browser (URL repo.exposed.info/module/de.robv.android.exposed.installer)

You will need to scroll down the webpage and look for “download” – this should be version 2.4.1 de.robv.android.xposed.installer_v25_36cbbc.apk – always check the MD5 hash with a checker tool. Tap the URL and you need to complete the action using your browser (you may have to do this twice**)

Once download is complete – pull down notifications and tap > de.robv.android.xposed.installer_v25_36cbbc.apk and this will open the Xposed Installer – Tap > Install and you should now see a tick next to “App installed”. Now tap > Open
Tap > Framework to update Xposed to the latest version > install/Update > Tap > OK when done and reboot

Open Xposed Installer and tap > Download > search > XPrivacy and tap > Download (latest version 1.10.36)

You will then be asked whether you want to install the app tap > Next > Install > Open
Finally to use XPrivacy you need to enable the module from Xposed Installer – tap > Modules and check xPrivacy.
That’s it – you are now ready to play with XPrivacy and manage/filter your apps!

interested in learning how to download the source of Android, pull an APK (Android application) off a device and then pull the package apart to view the code and work out how it all works, you will need a Java Decompiler. For those of you who read this blog you will know that If you wanted to strip an APK back to Java code, you would have had to use a PC to do this.

Now that has changed thanks to an app called Show Java – A Java Decompiler ready made for Android. This will help you to extract the .java source code from an APK (Android application) or .jar file from your device.

• Download the app from your mobile browser https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.njlabs.showjava
• Select the .Jar/APK from your SD card or from a list of installed apps
• It will show you the code in a clean-syntax highlighted form
• The decompiled source can be easily copied from the SD card (the source is stored in Show Java on the SD card)
• Includes a simple source browser with a summary of all decompilation errors as well as classes that could not be decompiled

This is an open source project right which uses dex2jar and Class File Reader (CFR). The app will require the following permissions:

• Network communication – this is used for automated bug reporting
• External Storage (SD card) – used to store the decompiled source code and to have a working directory for the app
• Affects Battery – this prevents the device from sleeping

Controlling your root settings is very important, especially as it opens your Android device up to the threat of malware. if you are familiar with rooting you will know that you can tweak and modify the way your Android software and hardware behaves. Granting apps root allows you to have vastly more control of your device and apps than without.

You should though be very aware that allowing your Android device to have root access does come with an element of security and privacy risk. Given the risk, SuperSU is often used by modders to control Android root settings on a per app basis.  What is SuperSU? SuperSU allows for advanced management of Superuser access rights for all the apps on your device that need root. It’s that simple!

I’m going to assume you already have a rooted device and that you have an intermediary knowledge of device rooting using SuperSU developed by ChainfireXDA. SuperSU allows for advanced management of Superuser access rights for all the apps on your device that need root.Here is a quick guide on how to control your Android smartphone root settings with SuperSU:

List of apps that you have installed and given root access privileges – keep this list as short as possible and only ever include the apps you use and NOT every app on your device
In Settings – make sure > Re-Authentication is enabled as this will ask for permission again if an app is re-installed or upgraded
Revoke permissions – tap an app and you can change the access from Grant to Prompt or Deny. This will make sure you will be prompted the next time you launch the app
Disabling root – you have the option to disable Superuser – click > Settings > scroll down to > Enable Superuser*
App access – make sure that the default access is set to > Prompt – click > Settings > scroll down to > Default access – tap to change to > Grant or > Deny
*In some instances this function might not work. If your Android device does not disable root, you should reboot. Repeat this process when you re-enable root.

Install Android OTA updates on rooted devices

IMPORTANT: WE CYBROZE holds no responsibility for issues you might encounter as part of this post.








You might have come across problems when installing OTA updates to your rooted Android device, I know I have. In most instances the ROM I am using isn’t the stock ROM (along with custom recovery installed) and that is when the OTA updates* fail. OEM’s will nearly always check Android checksums match, as modified ROMs will have a different checksum to that installed by the OEM. This then leads to the well documented problem of OTA updates failing on rooted devices.

Many of my readers have encountered problems mainly with non-stock ROMs on OEM devices such as, HTC and Samsung, which block you from updating OTA or via USB. I will now show you how to prepare your rooted Android device for OTA updates:

Create a backup using a custom recovery tool. Use a tool such as Titanium to create your backup. Move the backup file on to your computer.
SuperSU includes a ‘Survival mode’ – make sure this is checked.
Next, you will need to flash your boot and system partitions back to stock version. You can do this with fastboot or recovery.
Using your stock recovery image you will need to flash this using fastboot or dd (see bootnote).
Bootloader? Some devices will not allow you to install OTA updates if the bootloader is unlocked. You can use dd to reset the bootloader back to factory mode.
Tamper flags – these are set by OEMs to detect when a system has been modded. This will also stop OTA updates. You can use dd (see How to use dd to remove tamper flag:) or Triangle Away if you use a Samsung device.
You should now have installed your custom system and recovery images as well as locked bootloader. You can now reboot the device and attempt the OTA update.
You may need to wipe the system if you experience issues. You can do this by installing your backup as mentioned above. TIP: If using a custom recovery tool, only re-flash the /data partition.
Remember, OTA updates will only work on stock versions, so it’s a good idea to backup prior to do the update. This allows you to revert the partitions back to stock.

*OTA updates will nearly always fail on a rooted device. OEMs will actively check the device for root(SU) / unlocked bootloader and of course tamper flags.

Bootnote: The dd command is very powerful. If you don’t know what you are doing, don’t use this:

adb devices
adb shell
su (if needed to get a # prompt)

Have u ever wondered it was good if it was possible to code a program and execute it in mobile ? I bet most of u might have. Personally i have n i found this application named C4Droid which is a C/C++ IDE for Android phones . This application allows you to code a C/C++ program in the inbuilt editor and compile and execute in Mobile itself. Isn't really cool ? I Believe most of them will agree because this is "Really Cool Stuff" .
